Under The Bridge- Red Hot Chili Peppers. 8x8 Oil on gessobord. The challenge this week is to paint  a bridge. I found this fabulous photo by Joe Price on Photos for Artists. Someday I would like to witness this scene for myself. The color was so vibrant and the mood so peaceful.
Love the guitar!

Sacrifice Cliff- Billings Montana

I have lived in Montana all my life...well most of it...and today is the first time I actually looked up the history of this place. I always assumed it was a buffalo jump...and may have been, but today I learned that it is thought two Indian Crows jumped off the cliff after they witnessed their entire village dead of small pox.

Any Colour You Like- Pink Floyd

Any Color You Like- Pink Floyd
6x6 Oil on gessobord
The challenge on DailyPaintworks this week is candy! I bought these little boxes of dots for Halloween and decided ...before we ate them all...to get some pics. I love the bright colors... and yes, I ate them after this! Well ....they WERE already out of the box and all.

Ride Like The Wind- Christopher Cross

Ride Like The Wind- Christopher Cross
8x8 on gessobord
I took this photo years ago at a Custer Battlefield re-enactment in Montana around 1992...little did I know it would serve me well 25 years later! OMG...did I just say that! Well better than 50 years later...huh! They were just what I was looking for. Western themed juried art show in Wyoming. Hope I get in!

Black Is Black- Los Bravos 1966

Black Is Black - Los Bravos 1966
6x6 Oil on gessobord
The challenge this week on Daily Paintworks is to paint a cat. In honor of Halloween next week it had to be black! I loved this photo by Kairen Jamieson. The light coming thru the fur and ears is so bright. The eyes were tough to get green enough! Painting and photographing black paintings is such a challenge!

This Hard Life- Bruce Springsteen

This Hard Life- Bruce Springsteen
8x8 Oil on gessobord
This is another painting of the interior of the Hornbek Homestead around Florissant, Colorado. The light streaming in the window on to the little pantry space was so wonderful. I'm thinking of the woman who used the washboard and mended the clothes.
I think I have titled more paintings with Bruce's tunes than another other musician! Always about the workin man or WOMAN! hahaha

Those Were The Days- Mary Hopkin

Those Were The Days- Mary Hopkin
8x8 Oil on gessobord
Driving around Colorado last summer I took this photo of the interior of the Hornbek Homestead around Florissant. The house and the barns were remarkably preserved. The light coming through the window was amazing. Makes me wonder about the people and the goings on there.
Here is the music...It is stuck in my head...haven't heard this one in a long time.

The challenge this week is the curious cow! I saw this photo on Photos for Artists by Robin Leath and had to paint it. They are surely curious creatures.
One of my favorite songs....and I bet Bessie here would say...What's Goin On?

Hey Gypsy- Bob Seger

I have wanted to paint some old campers for awhile. When Tim and I went to Amarillo a few weeks ago, we went to a RV museum there! I went crazy taking pics and loved this little red one with the Coca Cola cooler. I have few more planned!

September 2016- The 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge

Here is a collage I created on PicMonkey of the paintings I managed to paint for the 30 in 30 challenge. My theme was umbrellas...with a few of the Daily Paintworks challenges thrown in. I only managed to do 12 paintings, ( I had to leave one off for balance!), but I would have done far fewer without this challenge.

Looking Up- Elton John

Lookin Up- Elton John
6x6 Oil on gessobord
I am channeling my inner Van Gogh on this one! The challenge this week on Daily Paintworks is looking upward. I took this photo in the jungle in Guatemala at a place called Takalik Mayan ruins. It was out in the middle of nowhere in Guate...the electricity went out at 8:00. Luckily I couldn't see what was scurrying around the outside of the little cabin we stayed in! Yikes! Oh the memories!

China Girl- David Bowie

China Girl- David Bowie. 6x6 Oil on gessobord. Day 15 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days. Wow...what was I thinking in trying this one. I am not a portrait artist...but I will never get any better without at least making an attempt! So here it is. The last portrait I painted looked very flat as I look back. I am hoping this one is better. Have to wait and see what happens when it dries!!!

Getaway- Earth, Wind And Fire

Getaway- Earth, Wind And Fire. 8x8 Oil on Gessobord. Day 6 of the 30 in 30. My favorite getaway...is the beach... Always! I plan vacations around...when can we go to the beach? Hmmm, if we go here...first..then it's an easy jaunt over to the beach for the day😃. My theme this month is umbrellas, with a few of the weekly challenges thrown in!

How I Roll- Charlie Mars

How I Roll- Charlie Mars. 6x6 Oil on gessobord. Day 3 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days. This guy with his funky umbrella cracks me up! My husband would NEVER allow an umbrella on his boat for fishing! Just not manly...HaHa..
If you haven't figured it out my theme for this month is umbrellas....all kinds....I will have to get really creative!

Heaven- Los Lonely Boys

Heaven- Los Lonely Boys. 6x6 Oil on gessobord. Day 2 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days. In my lifetime I have never lived close enough to go to the beach much. Only on vacations.....but...I have many times tried to figure out the closest beach to our house...so this song is so fitting! How far is heaven?
Vamonos...Lets Go!!

Pink Cadillac- Bruce Springsteen

Pink Cadillac- Bruce Springsteen. 8x8 Oil on gessobord. Painted for the challenge this week on Daily Paintworks. I saw this gem parked in Williston, North Dakota...and I thought of the title immediately! What else could it be? Haha.

When Doves Cry - Prince

When Doves Cry- Prince. 6x6 Oil on Gessorbord. The reference photo for this one comes from Mary Villazon at Photos for Artists on FB. I knew the title of this one right off the bat with the recent death of Prince. This little guy looks so content though not crying at all. I love the coo coo coo!
I usually post a link to the song, but in this hotel room...I'm crying over how slow the Internet is!

Stuck In The Middle With You- Stealers Wheel

Stuck In The Middle With You-Stealers Wheel. 8x8 Oil on Gessobord. I saved the reference photo a long time ago for this one from Uschi on Pmp-art.com. I have always loved lilacs, my grandma did too and they always remind me of her! The smell they emit is so sweet and will fill the whole house!
Here is the music!

One Sweet World- Dave Matthews Band

One Sweet World- Dave Matthews Band. 6x6 Oil on Gessobord. The challenge this week on DailyPaintworks is to paint ice cream. I searched Pixabay and found this sweet photo of a young boy really getting into his cone! So sweet!
From song facts.com I learned this! So the title seems to be perfect
  • In 2002, Ben and Jerry's created a Dave Matthews Band inspired ice cream called "One Sweet Whirled" as a tribute to this song. It is a combination of coffee ice cream, caramel, and marshmallow swirls. Ben and Jerry's and Dave Matthews Band both support socially responsible causes, and some proceeds from "One Sweet Whirled" go to the organization Save Our  Environment
So the title seems to be perfect! Here is the music...

Strawberry Fields Forever

Strawberry Fields Forever- The Beatles. Finally...finally...I got to paint today! My fingers have been twitching to hold a brush for a month. I did a pet portrait two weeks ago, but have been off the thinner and linseed oil smell for a month or two! But to open my paints again and smell them and be creative....omg I'm in heaven!
Here is the music.

In The Garden- Van Morrison

In The Garden- Van Morrison. 6x6 Oil on gessobord. Day 2 of the bunnies! Something about them just makes me smile:) So soft and sweet....and quiet. My daughter Meg used to have a lop she would put a bonnet on and push it around in a doll carriage!
I have always loved Van Morrison..enjoy, it has a nice melody

Garden Party- Rick Nelson

Garden Party- Rick Nelson- 6x6 Oil on gessobord. I was in Billings, cakin and being back up helper and electrician for Meg's cakin kitchen for a week so I missed all the cute bunnies! My grandkids are in another state (miss them dearly) so I felt compelled this morning to celebrate my Easter by painting this little guy! So sweet and fluffy!

Let's Get It Started- The Black Eyed Peas

Let's Get It Started- The Black Eyed Peas. 6x6 Oil on gessobord. The challenge this week is signs of spring. Nothing brings spring to mind more than crocus. They poke their heads out of the snow searching for the sun! Just like me! I want the sun ....and ....spring to start! So Let's get it started!
I wasn't sure if this was the right song, but listening to it...I was up dancing around the room! So yes! It is the right one!

The Grand Illusion- Styx

The Grand Illusion- Styx. 8x8 Oil on gessobord. This weeks challenge on Daily Paintworks is a mini Monet. Yay! One of my favorites, so I was all in for this one! The challenge is to create "the illusion of an endless whole, of water without horizon or bank." The water and the reflective sky become one. Thanks Ann Nemcosky for the photo and the challenge!

Jack of All Trades- Bruce Springsteen

Jack of All Trades- Bruce Springsteen. 6x6 Oil on gessobord. The challenge this week on Daily Paintworks is to create a composition using tools. These tools kinda are sentimental for a few reasons. My husband's old craftsman screwdriver has ended up in my tools. The hammer is an Ace Hardware one from when we had an Ace Hardware store years ago. The tin snips are old and rusty but still do the job. Wonder what the hell I cut with those? Probably wire? oops. Had never heard this song before, it's a slow one...but I really think it is good. Besides it's Bruce! All american.

Something In The Air- Thunderclap Newman

I love this song!
Skip the ad...erg.

Down Under- Men At Work

Down Under- Men At Work. 5x7 Oil on Sourcetek panel. The challenge this week is to paint a groundhog! Of course! I believe he did NOT see his shadow today....so early spring! We can only hope! Here in North Dakota it has been one long winter!

Day 28- Steampunk Revolution- Abney Park

Day 28- Steampunk Revolution- Abney Park. 6x6 Oil on gessobord. Unframed. Okay...this is really out of my comfort zone...portraiture. But I had to try! I so love the costumes and the "get ups" of Steampunk. How imaginative. What fun! Thanks so much to photographer Alan Cruickshank for posting the photo. It took me so long to do this one yesterday...and then was going to work on it again this morning...which never works...I looked at it and thought...I'm not going to mess with it.

Day 27- Fly Away- Lenny Kravitz

Day 27- Fly Away- Lenny Kravitz. 6x6 Oil on gessobord. The challenge this week on Daily Paintworks is Escape The Snow. Yessssssssss....thank you Ann Nemcosky for submitting this challenge. Where do you like to escape to? Well everyone that knows me...knows! Da beach man. I love it. I usually have my feet wet the first hour I'm there! When we lived in Guatemala we would go over to Monterrico. It was only a few hours away. Gotta get a beach fix!
I want to get away....I want to fly away!

Day 26- Lily Love- The Chieftains

Day 26-Lily Love- The Chieftains and The Civil Wars ..6x6 Oil on gessobord. Day 26 of the 30 in 30...Phew almost there! I have missed a few days of the month, but I have produced quite a few more than I would have otherwise:) I love the color of the pond on this one. And lily pads are my favorite!
This song is not my usual, but I listened to it....never heard of this Irish band before....and loved it. I do have a little Irish in me!

Day 25- Little Wing- Jimi Hendrix

Day 25- Little Wing- Jimi Hendrix. 8x8 Oil on gessobord. My contribution to the 30 in 30. Slacked off this weekend and didn't paint a thing. I just love hummingbirds. They flit around and are so busy.
I must have tried 6 different backgrounds until I finally settled on this.
